Building erection is well underway. This is the part of the project that things begin to look smaller than you expect, but that soon changes, as we all know. One hundred plus temperatures during the day make the installation of the exterior metal skin an unenviable task, but we have a good crew that works through the heat to keep on schedule.
This project moves forward on a surprisingly fast pace from day to day and the progress is sometimes remarkable. The second floor mezzanine is framed and will be poured later this week. First floor light gauge metal framing has begun and small changes are starting to find their way into the layout. All project partners are watching intently to make sure all the original decisions are still making good sense.
Keep an eye on this one as it’ll change character often!

Not Lord of the Rings or even a three ring circus, but play rings. These are the two latest additions to the rear playground at TOP Evergreen. They are the boundaries of the playground equipment that will eventually be installed. The first one looks like a reflecting pool but that is because it’s excavated to allow for the appropriate depth of protective “fall zone” material below the equipment.
In this photo, you see one of several tests being performed on the interior slab prior to the installation of floor finishes. This test will help the installer comply with the warranty requirements set by the manufacturer. This is an important step in the lifecycle performance of the flooring.

Today the air handling equipment arrived on site and were lifted to the rooftop mechanical wells via crane. There are four wells on different parts of the roof for the four different sections of the building and each well gets it’s own set of roof top units (RTU’s). The largest of the units weighs in at 1,300 pounds so placement is critical. In the first picture you can see one of the wells on the roof still clad in building wrap awaiting siding installation.
The Halstead Fire / EMS building, which is phase one of a two phase project has sprouted roots, or more correctly, begun footings. Out of the depths of the east end, stem walls are beginning to appear. The slope on the site, west to east is about a three foot drop so the stem walls need to be framed to bring the slab up to a uniform height. Underground connection to a new transformer for the adjacent building has been completed and it’s only a matter of another week before we’ll probably see the slab pour. Stay tuned…
The parking lot got started today. The base course of asphalt is being laid which means the dust will literally and finally, settle. Getting parking next to the building will help the trades get in closer to their work and will keep the job site substantially cleaner, not to mention the issue we have with dirt parking and precipitation. And speaking of precipitation, we’re still hoping for a dry week to get the exterior of the project substantially complete.
Each trunk will split off into the individual classrooms to supply air. Once the ductwork is finished, the rooftop units will be installed and we’ll have conditioned space! Conditioned space means the interior finish can begin to arrive on site for installation. Cabinets, counters and paint will all be scheduled soon. The rooms are starting to look complete.
